Silas Hobson

Born: 18th May 1978

Silas is member of the Lockhart River Gang a group of young Aboriginal Artists from the east coast of Cape York. Silas is a Kuuku Y'au / Wuthathi speaker who was born in 1978 and grew up in Lockhart River. He is a regular and committed worker at the Art Centre.

His paintings have developed a distinctive style and imagery and his limited edition prints are of high technical quality.

Silas’s work is about his country and animals and is a contemporary response to the traditional culture and isolation of his community. Silas likes to play football and go hunting and fishing.

Silas has works in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Australia and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
