Samantha is a member of the Lockhart River Art Gang. Lockhart River is on the east coast of Cape York in Far North Queensland. She works from the Art centre and paints about her country, her community and stories from the old days.
"I paint about my country…our land and our sea country… the patterns and colours and the stories. My grandmother tells me stories from the old days…I paint these stories. I paint things that happen in the community…sometimes what I see really upsets me. I paint. It makes me feel better inside."
Her modern abstract style is typical of the Lockhart artists’ use of thickly applied acrylic paints and vibrant primary colours.
Samantha was the 2000 recipient of the Lin Onus Youth Award at the Fifth National Indigenous Heritage Art Awards.
Samantha’s work is now represented in the State collections of the National Gallery Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, Queensland Art Gallery and overseas in the Columbus State University, Georgia and the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection of the University of Virginia, USA.
